About Me
I'm an English self taught artist, originally from the Northeast of England where the countryside is mostly unspoiled with vast moorlands, extensive woodlands, historic castles and an abundance of wildlife. I now live in Texas, just outside the small town of Farmersville about an hour from Dallas. I live with my husband on a small ranch where we operate and run a successful custom cabinet business. My father was an engineer and as a child i travelled all over the UK and abroad wherever his work took us. Sometimes moving on after just a few months and sometimes living in very remote areas of Africa or the Middle East. Wherever life took us we were always around horses. I started to draw animals to pass the time and realized that i enjoyed it. I continued to experiment with oil pastels and oil paints for several years. After returning to England in my late teens I didn't have as much time to spend on my art. And with work and family commitments and general day to day life I didn't pick up a pencil for a long time.
Fast forward to the more recent times and although I'm still hands on in the cabinet workshop, I have made a lot more time to pursue other things that I love. I researched and invested in the best materials to use and started to draw again. I started with colour pencils on hot press watercolour paper. They are a slow medium to use but I love the detail and realism you can achieve with them. Wanting to move onto larger and bolder pieces that i feel some images need, I started using charcoal on canvas and encaustic board. I love the looser aspect of charcoal whilst still being able to do the finer detail if needed.
